Wicked Reaction

Last Wednesday night when I took Vanessa and friends to see Harry Potter 6 Paul took Christopher, Hunter and cousin Brittany to Bahama Bucks. They have some sugar free syrups. We have not been in probably a year because Hunter does react to it; although it is not a severe reaction. She gets more cranky, cries more and just general attitude like she does not feel good the next day or two. She has been asking for it all summer so we decided it would be a good treat for them while Vanessa and I were out. Since it has been so long Christopher was little last time Paul went and probably only ate maybe a couple licks. This time he really liked it and ate like a quarter of his before his obsession with trash cans kicked in and he ran over and threw the rest away (before daddy knew what he was up to and could stop him). Other patrons thought he was cute enough to let him throw away their stuff but only after they were done consuming the treats. So the next morning he starts throwing up and throwing up and throwing up. After 24 hours and about 20 throw ups some only 20 minutes apart we went to the doctor Friday morning. He was dehydrating (5% dehydrated) and she said another throw up or two and he was going to need an IV (at 7% dehydration). His eyes were sunken and his mouth was dry. She prescribed Zofran which they use for very sick pregnant women as well as chemo patients. All it took was one pill and he stopped. It was like his body just could not pull out of the cycle. He recovered more quickly than we thought he would. Yay!! We had tickets to the matinee of Wicked the next day and were very thankful he got better quickly enough that we were still able to go. We checked on him a couple times while we were away and he did great! Thanks Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Dennis for watching them!! The show was great. I recommend it to anyone that has the chance to see it.

While Christopher was sick I kept wondering if it was a stomach bug we were all going to share or if it was a reaction to the Bahama Bucks. The girls were so helpful sometimes holding the bowl for him and helping clean up the first one we were not prepared for. Usually those bugs are so contagious. I am surprised no one else has gotten it by now. I tend to think it was a reaction. The only way to know for sure would be to go again and let him have the same flavor. We won't be doing that any time soon.
