Grand Canyon Day 2

Heading up North Kaibab Trail with Missy and Jeanne

This is the turnoff to Phantom Falls. It is right after the second bridge. Not sure how far to the falls from here.

If you look close you can see the moon

My backpack: This morning we weighed in behind the Phantom Ranch. My pack was 10 pounds more than the lowest pack at a total of 42 pounds 11 ounces. Yikes!

Jeanne, Missy and Tammy taking a load off for a sec.

The first half of this trail is now one of my favorite hikes ever. We were right along Bright Angle Creek almost the whole way. Loved it!

We rock hopped across the top of this waterfall. Normally no problem for me. With a heavy backpack on I freaked out a little bit. Luckily no problems.

We met this guy doing a bike race on the Arizona Trail only you can't bike in the Grand Canyon

So you have to carry your bike. It was his 3rd time doing the race

He was going all the way to the top of the North Rim that day (day 12 of his race) and planned to finish the next night.

Finally made it Cottonwood Campground. The trail got steep just before here and we were ready to be done after 7 miles and 4 hours with those heavy packs.

Playing in the water behind the campground. It was ice cold. Missy and I just put our legs in. If felt good on our calves and knees.

Jeanne was the brave one to get all wet

My tent is the one on the right.

Handy metal poles to hang your packs on so animals don't get in them. All food and trash was placed in metal ammo boxes.
